River Itchen Southern Route

A paddle on a chalk stream with unique views of Southampton

The navigation history of the River Itchen stretches back to Norman times, therefore you might feel like you are stepping back in time as you paddle this 4.5 mile route.

A paddle along this beautiful chalk stream provides unique views of Southampton and other urban areas contrasted by a greener and wilder feel north of Cobden Bridge.

This section of the river is tidal and trips should be planned on a rising tide. At low tide, the River Itchen Northern Route remains accessible.
