Buckler’s Hard to Beaulieu

A paddle back in time for when you want to make a day of it

This route will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Start in the historic village of Buckler’s Hard and paddle past grand homes and pristine habitats. There is nowhere to stop in Beaulieu, so when you reach Beaulieu turn around and head back to Buckler’s Hard for a nibble or a drink at the café or pub.

This is a longer paddle that will take between 2 and 3 hours in one direction. Bring a pair of binoculars for fab birdwatching opportunities. You might even spot a white-tailed eagle.

  Conditions: A quiet river paddle. The slipway dries out 2 hours either side of low tide. Launching and landing elsewhere on the Beaulieu River is prohibited.

  Time: 4 to 6 hours return trip.

  Distance: approximately 6 miles or 9.5 km round trip

Parking: Woodmill Bridge, Buckler’s Hard, SO42 7XB (pre booked only, no access to site without gate code)

Facilities: Parking, toilets, harbour masters office, small shop with refreshments
