Ranger Julie’s guide to Calshot

Ranger Julie takes us on a tour of one of her favourite wildlife spots on the Solent: Calshot Beach and Calshot Marsh. Always changing, but as she says, never failing to deliver for the wonderful sights and sounds of nature.

On her walk, Julie sees two different types of ducks, oystercatcher, dunlin, brent geese and ringed plover and gives valuable advice for making sure they’re not disturbed while they eat and rest.

Julie also points out the rich history of Calshot: from Henry VIII’s castle in the 16th century to its role in aviation in the First and Second World Wars. The walk starts on the beach near to the car park at SO45 1BR.
