Great Coastal Birdwatch: Kids’ Zone
Did you know, the Solent coastline is a really special place throughout the world because of its unique habitats for sea birds?
By taking part in this year’s bird count this half-term, you’ll be making a difference to our knowledge of the amazing birds which travel here every autumn.
Make sure you download your bird ID guide and counting sheets.
How to take part:
- With your parents or carers, choose a spot around the Solent coast to do your watch.
- Spend up to one hour counting the number of birds you see. Check out our Meet the birds pages for extra bird identification help.
- Let us know how many birds you spotted. You’ll find a link here from 22 October, which is when the birdwatch week starts.

The Bird Aware Coastal Code
You can also make a difference by becoming ‘bird aware’. That means you’ve learned about the birds that spend time on our coastline.
It also means you look out for their best interests when you’re visiting the coast.
