Yarmouth guided birdwatching walk and sketching workshop

Join Rangers Alice, Charlotte and local artist Bethany Moore for a guided walk around the Western Yar estuary. We will spend time looking at the over-wintering birds in their natural habitat before returning to the nearby community hall and spending 2 hours learning tips and techniques to help you sketch and record what you have seen.

About Bethany Moore

Bethany Moore is an Isle of Wight based visual artist, motivated by natural elements and the act of quietly observing them. She draws and paints to spark curiosity and encourage connection with the natural world. She likes to share these processes with others and enjoys running drawing groups and creative workshops to encourage observation and contemplation.

Event information:

Meeting point: We’ll meet at the southern end of the River Road Car Park in Yarmouth (across from the Wightlink ferry terminal). Look out for our rangers in their blue uniform. Link to location on Google Maps –

Parking: River Road Car Park in Yarmouth, PO41 0NU (parking charges apply)

Duration: Approximately up to 3.5 hours.

Accessibility: Whilst we will be following the footpath for the walk, some of it is uneven in places.

Clothing: Please ensure that you have sturdy/sensible shoes for the walk and dress appropriately for the weather (we advise warm layers and a waterproof coat).

Dogs: Unfortunately this event is not suitable for dogs.

Equipment: Bethany will supply some sketching equipment but feel free to bring your own.

Our outdoor activities are weather dependant. In the event of bad weather, we will skip the walk and go straight to the community hall where Bird Aware rangers Alice and Charlotte will share a short presentation showcasing the Solent’s birdlife. Bethany will then lead the sketching workshop.
