Hayling Island Winter Wildlife Walk

Join us for a gentle stroll around the Oysterbeds at Hayling Island. Take in the lovely scenery whilst hearing about the Rangers’ favourite birds and hopefully spotting some too!

This walk is a Great Coastal Birdwatch special and everyone will receive a recording form to keep track of the birds we see – these will be collected in at the end of the walk.

We will be joined by Shona Jenkins, our dog specialist and Coast and Country Canines project lead. Well behaved, on-lead dogs are very welcome to join the walk, and owners will receive expert advice on how to enjoy enriching, fun and wildlife aware dog walks.

The walk is aimed at those who are new to, or less experienced at bird watching. Families and children are welcome (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult). Bring binoculars if you have them but don’t worry if you don’t as the Rangers will have their telescopes.

Duration: The walk will last up to 1.5 hours at a leisurely pace with regular watching stops.

Accessibility: This is an outdoor event in a public space. The route is mostly gravel but some of the ground is uneven in places. There can also be some standing water (puddles) along the path and damp underfoot, so sensible footwear is essential.

Dogs: Well behaved, on-lead dogs are encouraged to join us.

Clothing: Please wear sturdy/sensible shoes and dress appropriately for the weather (we advise warm layers and a waterproof coat!).

Our outdoor walks and activities are weather dependant. We aim to let you know by email in good time if a walk is cancelled due to bad weather. Please check your emails before leaving home.

All our walks are free, but booking is required as places are limited so please reserve your place by emailing Ranger Alice with the number of people and dogs hoping to attend (maximum of two dogs per person): Alice.Ashcroft-Dalley@hants.gov.uk
