Lymington Keyhaven Guided Birdwatching Walk

Join our friendly rangers on a New Years walk to see what wildlife we can spot around Normandy Lagoon, at Lymington Keyhaven Nature Reserve. It’s a fantastic place to watch waders, ducks and geese that arrive here for the winter months.

We will learn to identify these birds, talk about their ecology and learn about how we can help them thrive.

The walk is intended for anyone who loves spending time on the coast: you don’t need to know anything about birds.

Families and children are always welcome (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult).

Bring binoculars if you have them but don’t worry if you don’t, we can supply a few pairs for your use. You can also enjoy views of the birds through the ranger’s telescopes.

Some of the species we might see include dark-bellied brent geese, wigeon, dunlin, oystercatcher, black-tailed godwit, redshank, turnstone and greenshank.

All of our walks are free to attend, but booking is required as places are limited. (see below).

Event Information

Duration: The walk is around 2 miles long in total and will last up to 2 hours at a leisurely pace with regular watching stops.

Accessibility: This is an outdoor event in a public space. We will be walking along a gravel seawall that is sometimes uneven, therefore sensible footwear is essential.

Dogs: We welcome well behaved dogs on our walks, but they must be kept on a short lead at all times.

Clothing: Please wear sturdy/sensible shoes and dress appropriately for the weather (we advise warm layers and a waterproof coat).
