Cams Bay – Fareham Winter Wildlife Walk

THIS PLANNED WALK NOW CANCELLED DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY RAIN

This is a short and gentle walk with plenty of time to stop and enjoy the wonderful wildlife that can be seen around our coast over the winter time. Our rangers will be on hand to guide and show you the birds spotted along the way.

Some of the species we might see include dark-bellied brent geese, wigeon, dunlin, oystercatcher, black-tailed godwit and greenshank.

The walk is aimed at those who are new to, or less-experienced at bird watching. Families and children are always welcome but under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Bring binoculars if you have them but don’t worry if you don’t, you can enjoy views of the birds through the ranger’s telescopes.

Booking details: All our walks are free, but booking is required as places are limited so please reserve your place by emailing Ranger Tony: anthony.knox@hants.gov.uk

Event Information

Parking: There is parking in Cams Water Car Park. Turn onto Shearwater Avenue and continue through the housing estate to the very end. Do not bear right onto Peacock Close, continue round to the left and into the car park. Link to location on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/fKEJyg8APVhmXJYD7

Meeting point – Once parked walk back out of the car park and turn left. Walk down the tree lined pathway to the shore, where the rangers will meet you. Look for them in their blue uniform.

Duration: The walk is around a mile long in total and will last up to 1.5 hours at a leisurely pace with regular watching stops.

Accessibility: This is an outdoor event in a public space. Some of the ground is uneven in places and can be muddy. There can also be some standing water (puddles) along the grassy foreshore and damp underfoot, therefore sensible footwear is essential.

Dogs: We welcome well behaved dogs on our walks but they must be kept on a short lead at all times.

Clothing: Please wear sturdy/sensible shoes and dress appropriately for the weather (we advise warm layers and a waterproof coat!).

Our outdoor walks and activities are weather dependant. We aim to let you know by email in good time if a walk is cancelled due to bad weather. Please check your emails before leaving home.
