Bird Aware Ranger: Events and Education

Do you have a flair for public engagement and proven experience in event and education planning?

Bird Aware Solent are looking for a ranger to join the team.

Bird Aware Solent rangers raise awareness of birds that spend time on our Solent coastline, encouraging everyone to share our shores with wildlife. We promote responsible recreation on the Solent coast to protect overwintering birds.

Rangers patrol the coast providing a positive and engaging presence for a diverse range of visitors, including dog walkers. You’ll need great communication skills and to be especially confident in striking up good rapport with people of all ages and backgrounds to encourage behaviour change. You also must have a driving license and use of your own vehicle for work purpose.

The focus of this role will to be the main point of contact for issues across the Chichester and Langstone Harbours SPA and, additionally, to develop Bird Aware’s event programme and educational materials across the region. This includes developing a programme of walks, talks, events and educational sessions, ensuring that they are inclusive, aimed at a diverse audience and are relevant to agreed learning outcomes.

Bird Aware Seasonal Assistant Rangers

Salary range: £19,265 – £20,290 a year equivalent
37 hours a week
Temporary contract from September 2022 to 31 March 2023

Are you a natural communicator who cares about wildlife?

We are looking for two highly motivated people to join the friendly ranger team for our busy winter season. Bird Aware Solent rangers raise awareness of birds that spend time on our Solent coastline, encouraging everyone to share our shores with wildlife. We promote responsible recreation on the Solent coast to protect overwintering birds.

Rangers patrol the coast providing a positive and engaging presence for a diverse range of visitors, including dog walkers. You’ll need great communication skills and to be especially confident in striking up good rapport with people of all ages and backgrounds to encourage behaviour change. Develop your existing skills by: helping to develop our innovative public engagement strategies; identifying on-the-ground improvements to visitor infrastructure; working with partner organisations across the region; getting involved in creating social media content.

You must have a driving license and use of your own vehicle for work purposes.

The locations for the positions are negotiable as we require assistance across the Bird Aware Solent region. We work on coastlines around the New Forest, Southampton Water, Portsmouth, Chichester and Langstone Harbours and the northern Isle of Wight.
