Our successes

In 2023 an independent review by Footprint Ecology examined the effectiveness of the Bird Aware Solent partnership, reporting on what could be learned from its first 5 years. The review concluded that Bird Aware had been ground-breaking in many ways, providing a model for other mitigation schemes around the country.

The review reported that Bird Aware Solent was seen as well run, organised and professional, ensuring a smooth process for mitigation delivery, and an efficient system for awarding infrastructure grants.

The ranger team were reported as being passionate, approachable, observant, knowledgeable, and friendly, and the level of mitigation achieved was summarised as impressive.

The report concluded that Bird Aware Solent will have a key role to play in nature recovery in the future.

Case studies

A range of case studies give an indication of the successes of the work of the Bird Aware Solent partnership: the introduction of a new haven for Hill Head’s winter birds; the introduction of the River Hamble Low Tide Loop,  the Alver Valley Country Park SANG, engagement activities surrounding The Great Coastal Birdwatch, site-specific project work at Peartree Green, featured dog walks at Bunny Meadows, the Wildlife with Watersports initiative, and ranger guided walks.
