We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about what information we hold about you. Whenever you provide such information, we are legally obliged to use your information in line with all applicable laws concerning the protection of personal information, within the General Data Protection Regulation 2018.

The purpose of this privacy notice is to give you a clear explanation about how we collect and use the information we collect from you directly.

Who we are

Bird Aware is a partnership dedicated to helping protect coastal birds.

What information is being collected?

If you wish to contact us, we will be asking you for:

  • Your name and email address.
  • The nature of your interest in Bird Aware.

Why we collect this information?

We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your personal data in the following circumstances:

  • To provide you with the information you have requested
  • Where it is necessary for our legitimate interests as outlined under Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation 2018
  • Where we need to comply with a legal obligation.

Your personal information will be treated as confidential, but it may be shared with other Bird Aware services in order to ensure our records are accurate and up-to-date and to improve the standard of the services we deliver. We will only use your information in ways which are permitted by the General Data Protection Regulation and the UK Data Protection law.

What we do with your information?

  • We will hold your data within our secure electronic systems
  • We will share it as outlined above if you have given consent for this

We will only use your personal information for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. If we need to use your personal information for an unrelated purpose, we will notify you and we will explain the legal basis which allows us to do so.

Generally, we do not rely on consent as a legal basis for processing your personal data although we will get your consent before sending third party direct marketing communications to you via email or text message. You have the right to withdraw consent to marketing at any time by contacting us.

How long we will keep your information?

We will keep your information for as long as it is reasonable to do so; this will reflect the reason you have contacted us. This will be different in every case as highlighted in the retention schedule below:

  • General enquiries – 3 months
  • Events enquiries – 12 months
  • Recruitment enquiries- 12 months
  • Compliments and complaints – 24 months

Used by Google Analytics allowing us to track pages you visit, and basic details about your web browsers. They cannot identify you personally.

You have a right to request a copy of the personal information that we hold about you and to have any inaccuracies in this data corrected. Please use the contact details at the end of this policy if you would like to exercise this right.

We are acting in our official capacity to respond to your enquiry, so you have the right to object to our processing of your personal data. There are legitimate reasons why we may refuse your objection, which depend on why we are processing it.
