Bird Aware is a partnership dedicated to helping protect coastal birds.

What information is being collected?

If you wish to contact us, we will be asking you for:

• Your name and email address.
• The nature of your interest in Bird Aware.

Why we collect this information?

We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your personal data in the following circumstances:

• To provide you with the information you have requested
• Where it is necessary for our legitimate interests as outlined under Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation 2018
• Where we need to comply with a legal obligation.

We have set out below, in a table format, a description of all the ways we plan to use your personal data, and which of the legal bases we rely on to do so. We have also identified what our legitimate interests are where appropriate.

Note that we may process your personal data for more than one lawful ground depending on the specific purpose for which we are using your data. Your personal information will be treated as confidential, but it may be shared with other Bird Aware services in order to ensure our records are accurate and up-to-date and to improve the standard of the services we deliver. We will only use your information in ways which are permitted by the General Data Protection Regulation and the UK Data Protection law.

• We will share it as outlined above if you have given consent for this

We will only use your personal information for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. If we need to use your personal information for an unrelated purpose, we will notify you and we will explain the legal basis which allows us to do so.

Generally, we do not rely on consent as a legal basis for processing your personal data although we will get your consent before sending third party direct marketing communications to you via email or text message. You have the right to withdraw consent to marketing at any time by contacting us.

How long we will keep your information?

We will keep your information for as long as it is reasonable to do so; this will reflect the reason you have contacted us. This will be different in every case as highlighted in the retention schedule below:

• Events enquiries – 12 months
• Recruitment enquiries- 12 months
• Compliments and complaints – 24 months
