Little Egret

Conservation Status: 🟢 Green

What am I?

The little egret is an elegant small heron that has become a regular visitor to our coastline since the 90s.

How to Identify Me

Little egrets stand out from the crowd with their white plumage and long necks. These are paired with a black bill and legs. If they aren’t enjoying themselves in the mudflats, you can also spot their yellow feet.

How Can You Help Me?

Little egrets are recovering well after being hunted for their plumes, with their numbers expanding. They are however still susceptible to disturbance! Help keep their numbers up by giving them space to feed and keeping dogs close by when you spot them.

Also ensure to keep your ears and eyes peeled for distress calls or birds becoming aware of your presence.
