Knot

Conservation Status: 🟠 Amber

What am I?

A chunky winter visitor to our shores, this medium sized sandpiper can be found in large flocks on our mudflat estuaries feeding with their specialised bill.

How to Identify Me

We sadly miss out on its summer brick red plumage, but in the winter we still can enjoy their green legs and silvery grey plumage.

How Can You Help Me?

As a winter migrant it’s vital for knots to build up their energy stores, so they are especially vulnerable to disturbance.  Give them lots of space if you spot them feeding along our estuaries and keep dogs close by and under control.

Also ensure to keep your ears and eyes peeled for distress calls or birds becoming aware of your presence.
