Grey Plover

Conservation Status: 🟠 Amber

What am I?

As the name suggests – a plover that is grey! A wading bird that migrates to our coastline for the colder months and feeds on our mudflats.

How to Identify Me

The grey plover is a medium sized bird that looks more brown-grey in the winter, and a more striking silver-grey in the summer. My distinct black armpits can be spotted all year round.

How Can You Help Me?

Make sure to give them lots of space if you spot them running along the mudflats to feed. Or if you see them flying in a zigzag pattern as they want to be left alone!

Also ensure to keep your ears and eyes peeled for distress calls or birds becoming aware of your presence.
