Golden Plover

Conservation Status: 🟢 Green

What am I?

Bigger than a ringed plover, but smaller than a grey plover, the golden plover, as the name implies has a striking gold and black spangled plumage which is most vibrant during the summer months.

How to Identify Me

The golden plover can be easy to identify thanks to it’s beautiful and iconic gold and black plumage. During spring and summer their plumage includes a deep black patch running from throat to belly.

How Can You Help Me?

Make sure you give them lots of space when you see these birds on the shore.

Golden plovers tend to follow the tide line as they feed so where possible, try to avoid walking directly along the tide line and instead stay to footpaths if you see them foraging.

Also ensure to keep your ears and eyes peeled for distress calls or birds becoming aware of your presence.
