Avocet

Conservation Status: 🟠 Amber

What am I?

A striking coastal bird most often seen wading and searching for food but can also been seen swimming alongside waterfowl during high tides thanks to their webbed feet.

How to Identify Me

Able to be spotted from afar thanks to it’s striking pied plumage, your best bet for identifying an avocet is by its unique black upturned beak which it sweeps in the water to search for food.

How Can You Help Me?

Make sure to give them lots of space if you see them foraging for food in the water. During low tide is when avocets will have the most access to food, so take extra caution when the tide is out.

Also ensure to keep your ears and eyes peeled for distress calls or birds becoming aware of your presence.
