Mute Swan

Conservation Status: 🟢 Green

What am I?

This graceful waterbird needs no introduction! Mute swans usually mate for life and can be found all year round on suitable water bodies.

How to Identify Me

These swans have elegant, curved necks and be distinguished from other swan species by the black bump and black base of their orange beaks.

How Can You Help Me?

Swans can be quite territorial so if you see them acting aggressively its best to move away. Feeding swans is a popular activity with coastal users – their favourite foods are grains and fresh greens! Avoid mouldy bread, nesting swans, and ensure to throw the food into the water and not on land.

Also ensure to keep your ears and eyes peeled for distress calls or birds becoming aware of your presence.
