Pintail

Conservation Status: 🟠Amber

What am I?

One of the most elegant birds on our shores who is a visitor during the colder months. You’ll often spy them alongside other ducks dabbling for food at the water’s surface.

How to Identify Me

Slightly bigger than a mallard, this duck is most easily identifiable by looking out for it’s long neck, long bill but most notably, it’s elegant long and pointed tail feathers which is where this duck gets its name.

How Can You Help Me?

Make sure you give them lots of space when you see these birds on the shore or in rivers.

Pintails tend to feed and gather with other ducks, so have your dog close by and not charging through riverbanks as this can cause significant distress and disturbance for waterfowl.

Also ensure to keep your ears and eyes peeled for distress calls or birds becoming aware of your presence.
