A bit of a lone wolf, this rather handsome medium sized diving duck can be found along coastal areas of Essex during this winter.Â

How to Identify Me
You won’t miss their triangular head and sloping bill! Both with striking yellow eyes, male heads have a green sheen whereas females have a brown head. Males have a black and white body, and females are grey.Â
How Can You Help Me?
When you see them in coastal waters, give them lots of space. This could be by walking along the top of the beach or footpaths on the sea wall.Â
If you have a dog its best to let them have their fun away from the water to give goldeneye’s the chance to continue foraging for food with their tails in the air.
Also ensure to keep your ears and eyes peeled for distress calls or birds becoming aware of your presence.
